It’s lunch time now at work. It is for this reason that it occured to me that I didn’t take out anything for dinner. I had planned to make greek burgers with tzatziki sauce, and pair that with tots and homemade aioli. While it sounds tasty.. I’m not really feeling like a burger tonight. I thought to myself.. ‘Self.. what do you want that you haven’t had in a long while?’ .. so I immediately think of noodle house.. then I think about what I did before I lived in LA and *HAD* a noodle house.
It was then that I remembered the epic deliciousness of one particular dish from a place called Bento Cafe. Spicy Cream Soba. The dish consists of a sweet cream sauce with a hint of red chile paste in it for spicy.. (I suspect they may actually just add some red chile paste to jar mayo.. whatever, I won’t judge).. over some soba with some tempura’d chicken that’s been coated in more honey.
Being a fan of making my own .. pretty much everything, I will be making my own mayo tonight (which, surprisingly I’ve never done before because I’m not what you’d call a gigantic fan of the condiment).. and then also gonna take a crack at making my own soba if I can get some buckwheat flour from the grocery store. Making the trip to Whole Foods (lovingly known as: Whole Paycheck) is a pain in the ass on a week night. I will also snag some soba noodles just in case I fail.
I think I might modify the tempura part, too. I think I’m doing enough deep frying between the tots of later this week, and the soy corn dogs/fries.
Look at me, being all health conscious and shit.
Aha! I thought I spotted mayo next to the corn dogs in that picture the other day but I wasn’t absolutely positive. I didn’t want to draw any false conclusions. But after this post, I’m sure of it. You have a European streak.
I do. I just posted some food that goes back to my European roots. 🙂
