Sushi preparation?.. you may be asking yourself.. (or not, but whatever this is my story!) But you just got this bad ass molecular gastronomy kit last week. Are you bored with that already?!@
The answer, of course, is no. I have plenty left to experiement with. This coming weekend will henseforth known as Spherification Saturday and Reverse Spherification Sunday. Excited. *prance prance prance*
However, that leaves 5 perfectly good week days.. two of which have been wasted already due to my lazy bastardness. No more time wasted though, because I’ve decided that I am going to learn to how to prepare sushi.
Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I were having lunch (omg SUSHI!) and I said, you know.. I bet I could make this.. and then he gave me this look like, ‘Ehhhhhhhhh. I dunno’.. and then proceeded to tell me people less culinarily talented than I have failed at homemade sushi and that he doesn’t think it will go well.
Of course, him lumping me in with his friends previous sushi-related failures only made me give him the stink eye. .. and then it made me go buy a kit with instruction booklet, cute dishes, and instructional DVD.
First stop, Philadelphia Rolls! (none of that pansy ass nigiri for me.)
Even in the face of utter skepticism from my boyfriend (who doubts my abilities even after I have lavished him lovingly with more Nanette Sauce than is healthy for one human being)… I will be kicking sushi-ASS tonight.
Pictures to come! (unless he’s right and it looks totally jenky.. then just forget I posted this)
Sushi is simple! You can do it! Ive done it on my blog last fall.
Thanks for the encouragement! It didn’t start out so well for me. I bought some salmon from the market on the recommendation of the man at the seafood counter. When I opened it up at home it had .. an odor. I decided not to eat it. If at first we don’t succeed, try try again. Perhaps from a different market.
I have no idea what “Spherification Saturday” is, but in my mind “Reverse Spherification Sunday” is just you stepping on whatever you made on Saturday with a heavy healed boot. Tell me I’m right.
As for stinky Salmon, that sounds like a fail from beyond and in no way related to you. Press on. Sounds fun.
Well one of them involves acidy things, and one of them doesn’t. Apparently if something is really acidic you have to use one chemical and if it’s not then you use the other. But if it doesn’t turn out well, I will just step on it. .. but I will take it outside first because I’m not a fan of mopping. 🙂
I was *SO* bummed about the salmon, but I think I will use some cheaper ingredients until I get better at the rolling.. hense the cucumber comment from the other post. I will be cutting that into strips and then rolling that into sushi. 🙂
